Bolangir: Days after the Medical Council of India (MCI) granted permission to start admission into the MBBS course for the 2018-19 academic session in the long awaited Bolangir Medical College and Hospital (MCH), BJD MP Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo targeted local MLA and Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra for the delay in formal opening of the college.

"Govt Medical College to open up in #Balangir soon. Permission given by MCI despite attempts by local @INCIndia opposition leader to sabotage it," Kalikesh  wrote on Twitter (SIC) on Thursday.

He also informed on his twitter handle that the MCI on April 26 granted permission to the medical college to start admission procedure from this year.

In response to the allegation of Kalikesh, Mishra said residents of Bolangir very well know who had opposed the foundation laying of the medical college in the year 1999. "The foundation for the establishment of the medical college had been laid in 1999 when I was the chairman of Western Odisha Development Council (WODC). Who had opposed it and whose attempts delayed it by 18 years," questioned Mishra.

"The people of Odisha especially Bolangir have very well heard what Ghulam Nabi Azad had said about the Bolangir Medical College during a public meeting in 2014, when he had arrived in Odisha for inauguration of AIIMS building. The person with lack of knowledge only attempts to fool people," he added.

Earlier on April 23, a three-member team MCI team had reviewed infrastructure and other necessary facilities at Bolangir MCH. As per reports, the team reviewed facilities at the hospital’s auditorium, classrooms and laboratories. It also took stock of the ongoing works and also assessed infrastructure at the college. The permission was granted on basis of the report submitted by the team.
