BJD member arrested on charges of raping woman inside party office

Jajpur: Police arrested accused Chandrakant Mohapatra, a BJD member, for allegedly raping a woman at Dasarathpur in Jajpur district. Mohapatra, who was absconding after the survivor filed a complaint with police earlier this week, was arrested from Keonjhar last night.

As per the complaint, Mohapatra had allegedly raped the woman inside the party office on January 15 on pretext of sanctioning a house under Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana. He had asked the woman to come to the party office in the night for the same and raped her. The woman had later filed a complaint at the Mangalpur police station.

Jajpur superintendent of police Charan Singh Meena said, “We had formed separate teams and conducted raids at various places. Mohapatra was arrested from Keonjhar last night and will be forwarded to court today.”

He further said as per preliminary investigation, Mohapatra seems to be the only person involved in the incident.
