Kamakhynagar: Tension prevailed in Kamakhynagar of Dhenkanal district today morning as locals blocked the national highway 53 near Hanuman Bazaar demanding arrest of the accused in murder of BJD district youth president Jasobant Parida.

The road blockade led to disruption of vehicular communication on Talcher- Kamakhynagar -Jajpur road as a result of which hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road.

"Police had promised us to nab the culprits within 12 hours but so far they have been unable to do so, therefore we resorted to road blockade," said local councillor Santosh Maharana.

Later after police assured the agitators to take immediate action to nab the accused, the locals withdrew their stir.

"The public have withdrawn their agitation after we promised to trace the accused as soon as possible. We have achieved some progress in the murder investigation and hope to crack the case soon," said Kamakhynagar IIC Gyanaranjan Samal.

As per sources, the investigation to trace the accused is underway and a Bolero used to commit the crime has been seized.

Yesterday, some unidentified miscreants had opened fire at Parida's vehicle while he was returning to his medicine store after inspecting his under construction house in Kamakhynagar.

Eight bombs were also hurled at Parida's vehicle and he was shot on the head during an attempt to flee from the spot. He was rushed to the SCB Hospital in Cuttack where doctors declared him brought dead.

Following the incident, Ministers Prafulla Mallick and Nrusingha Sahu had also met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and demanded thorough probe into the murder.

It is worthwhile to mention that Parida had also sustained a deadly attack earlier over a suspected political rivalry.
