Bhubaneswar: The 12-member BJD delegation has received a verbal confirmation from the Chhattisgarh government to visit the State on August 9 and inspect various projects being undertaken on the upper catchment of Mahanadi river.

The team has received a verbal confirmation to visit the neighboring State on August 9 during a discussion with Chhattisgarh Water Resources minister Brijmohan Agarwal.

The team led by MP Prasanna Acharya will inspect seven under-construction projects on Mahanadi on August 9 and August 10. On August 9, the team will inspect the Arpa project and will hold discussions with the chief engineer at Bilaspur. On August 10, the team will inspect the Kelo project on Mahanadi.

The state government is awaiting a formal letter from the Chhattisgarh government in this regard.

Acharya told newsmen, "During the Chhattisgarh visit we will find out how much water they would release after completion of the project and what is the basic purpose behind the establishing the barrages."
