Koraput: Demanding a CBI probe into the links of senior Congress leader and former Nabarangpur MP Pradip Majhi and his family with the Seashore Group, a chit fund company and their arrest, the ruling BJD today staged demonstrations in several areas in the undivided Koraput district.

While Commerce and Transport minister and Jharigan MLA Ramesh Majhi led the demonstration in Nabarangpur, the home constituency of Pradip Majhi, in Koraput, the BJD workers led by their district unit president Jayaram Pangi took out a rally and burnt the effigy of Majhi.

"We demand a CBI probe into this case and immediate arrest of Pradip Majhi, his father and brother failing which BJD will launch block-level demonstration. If necessary, we will begin hartal in the undivided Koraput district," Majhi said.

In Rayagada too, BJD workers burnt the effigy of the Congress leader while in Malkangiri, ruling party workers led by the local MLA Manas Madkami took out a protest rally.

Talking to media persons, Madkami said the former Congress MP, despite being the chairperson of the Adivasi Cell, always sheds crocodile tears for the tribals from whom he has looted money. "The BJD demands his immediate arrest and a CBI probe into the matter," he said.

While there was no reaction from Pradip Majhi, the Congress dubbed the BJD demonstration as ‘utterly ridiculous’.

“When Majhi has already called for a thorough investigation to bring out the real truth, there is no reason for the BJD to politicise the issue,” former PCC secretary Manoranjan Tripathy told the media here.

Notably, OTV had flashed the report on transfer of cash worth Rs 35 lakh and Rs 1.62 crore from the Seashore bank account to the bank accounts of Pradip Majhi’s father and brother respectively.
