Cuttack: Commissionerate police on Wednesday arrested Ranjita Biswal, the BJD corporator of Cuttack Municipal Corporation's ward no-7 for her alleged links with notorious gangster brothers-Sushil and Sushant Dhala Samant (D-brothers).

Sources said, Ranjita was part of the conspiracy hatched by D-brothers from jail to kill four persons, mostly contractors and others who were once part of their criminal gang.

Following her arrest, Ranjita has been dismissed from the primary membership of BJD, as per a press release issued by Cuttack district BJD unit.

Cuttack DCP Akhilesvar Singh informed that Ranjita Biswal had supplied firearms to one Mrutyunjay Nayak alias Miku who was arrested on March 4 for trying to kill contractor Bijay Kumar Pal of Subhadrapur.

Miku, who was out on bail, was hired by Sushant Dhala Samant to kill Pal after he stopped paying extortion money.

Sushant, who is presently lodged in Jharpara jail, had come in contact with Miku in the jail and helped him get bail as well, informed sources.

“Our investigation reveals that Ranjita Biswal had supplied 3 firearms and 60 rounds of ammunition to the prime accused who had attempted to kill Pal,” said Singh.

Singh further informed that Ranjita Biswal had supplied the firearms to the accused through a middleman who has also been arrested.

On February 23, Miku had called Pal outside his house at Subhadrapur for some discussion and later fired at him.

However, Pal had a close shave as he ran towards the corner after Miku took out a pistol and opened fire.

Two two pistols and 29 rounds of live bullets were recovered from Miku's possesion.

Miku’s associate Sada Naik was also arrested following a police encounter recently on March 4. A 9mm pistol, four live rounds and two empty catridges were also recovered from his possession.
