Bhubaneswar: Politics is now active over seizure of Rs 40.50 lakh from bypoll-bound Bijepur with BJD and BJP knocking the doors of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) over the issue.

Alleging that the seized money belonged to ruling BJD and was meant for distribution in bypoll bound Bijepur, the BJP leaders sought intervention of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in connection with the incident.

"Use of black money by BJD is now rampant and Padampur SDPO is working at the behest of ruling party. Besides, we have also urged CEO to take appropriate action against NAC employees who have been accused of distributing money to voters in Bijepur," said BJP Spokesperson, Sajjan Sharma.

Police on the other hand arrested two persons-- Akash Agarwal and his father Om Prakash Agarwal after they failed to provide any satisfactory answer about the cash on Sunday.

Police had earlier detained the father-son near check gate at Mahulipali square on Padampur-Bijepur road while the duo was transporting around Rs 40 lakh cash in their four-wheeler on Saturday.

Strongly refuting the allegations leveled by BJP, BJD stated that both Akash and his father Om Prakash are active workers of Bajrang Dal and VHP respectively and also have links with the saffron party.

A delegation of BJD led by senior leader Surya Narayan Patro today approached the Chief Electoral Officer demanding appropriate action in connection with the incident.

However, VHP in a press release have refuted that neither of the arrested persons were associated with their organization.

This is not for the first that cash has been seized from Bargarh district. Earlier on February 14, Rs 3.20 lakh was also seized from two cars in Tapali chhak of Gaisilet block.

Meanwhile, police have launched a special campaign 'Yes to Vote and No to Note' to create awareness among people and curb the attempts by political parties to buy votes by distributing cash.
