Bhubaneswar: Students of the girls’ hostel of BJB College here staged a demonstration against college management for providing unhygienic and substandard food to them.

Aggrieved students gathered in front of their hostel gate and raised slogans against the college management and the mess committee for ignoring hostel inmates’ complaint from time to time.

They alleged that the food supplied in girl’s hostels was of poor quality and they had protested against the contractor now and then, but their protest was ignored.

The protesting students said that a number of times hostel inmates had to skip dinner as the food supplied were of poor quality.

“We have been complaining about the issue since last two months before the Principal, Vice Principal, Superintendent but they only accept our complaints and do nothing,” said a student.

“Few days back we found a grasshopper from rice. Sometimes we also find centipedes,” another student alleged.

On the other hand, the college administration has refuted the allegations brought by the students.

Hostel superintendent Rajlaxmi Mishra said, “Students might have found insects in old stocked rice and therefore are unhappy about it. I discussed the matter with the college authorities and on Wednesday we are calling for a general body meeting. After that we will decide what action can be taken.”
