Bhubaneswar: Authorities of the BJB Autonomous College today declared cancellation of students’ union poll for this year citing ongoing tension on the college premises.

Principal of the college Mohammed Nawaz Hasan stated the college will remain closed sine die until further orders. Students were asked to vacate hostels by Saturday evening.

Police personnel have been deployed on the college campus after authorities of the educational institution requested for the same to the local administration.

Campus poll at the BJB College was cancelled last year also due to frequent incidents of violence.

The Higher Education department today issued a notification on campus poll at colleges and universities in the State. Aspiring candidates can file their nominations on September 16 from 9 AM to 12 noon, the last date of withdrawal of nomination is September 18, between 2 PM and 4 PM.

“Why I stand for?” meeting will be held on September 22, a day before the polling. The election results will be declared on September 23.
