Bhubaneswar: Congress MLA Subal Sahu from Bijepur constituency died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here today. He was 56.

Sahu, a cancer patient was suffering from fever for the last three days.

Naveen-PatnaikChief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJD MP Baijayant Panda and other leaders condoled the death of the legislator.

Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan took to twitter to express his condolences on the demise of the legislator.

 

Paying his last respect to the departed soul, PCC president Prasad Harichandan described Subal Sahu as a mass leader. “He was a leader of masses. His demise is an irreparable loss not only for Congress but also for the people of State. His passing away has left a void in Odisha politics,” Harichandan said.

Born in Kansaripara of Barpali block in Bargarh district, the Congressman was elected to State Assembly thrice in 2004, 2009 and 2014. He had defeated BJD strong man and former minister Prasanna Acharya in the last Assembly election.

He started his career as a lawyer. A noted volleyball player Sahu had represented Odisha in the national championship in 1981-82 and 1983-84.
