New Delhi/ Bhubaneswar: Clearing the air, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday announced the dates for bye-election in Bijepur Assembly Constituency of Odisha that was necessitated by the death of Congress MLA Subal Sahu.

As per the notification issued by ECI, voting will be held on February 24 while the counting and results will be declared on February 28.

A Gazette Notification in this regard will be issued on January 30.

As per the schedule, while the last date for filing nomination is February 6 while the candidates can withdraw their candidatures by February 9.

“After taking into consideration various factors like local festivals, electoral rolls, weather conditions etc., the Commission has decided to hold the bypoll on February 24,” said ECI in its statement.

With the announcement of the dates the Model Code of Conduct has now come into force with immediate effect.
