Bhubanerswar: The Election Commission of India (ECI) today issued a formal notification for the much-awaited bypoll in Bijepur constituency that was necessitated after the death of Congress MLA Subal Sahu.

As per the notification, voting for the by-election will be held from 8 am to 5 pm on February 24. The process of filling of nomination papers for the by-election that begins today will continue till February 6.

The nomination papers will be scrutinized on February 7. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 9, the notification added.

Counting of votes and the results will be declared on February 28.

Meanwhile, both the BJD and the BJP have declared names of their respective party candidates. The Congress is likely to announce its candidate today.

While Rita Sahu, wife of incumbent legislator late Subal Sahu, has been pitted by BJD as its candidate, the BJP, on Monday, announced Ashok Panigrahi as the party candidate for the by-election.
