Cuttack: Police on Sunday seized more than 500 quintals of green gram (moong) from Seva Co-operative Society at Bilasuni village under Niali area in Cuttack district.

Getting information from the locals last night, police rushed to the spot and seized the moong that was being packed in sacks for smuggling. The cops also sealed the office and godown of the Co-operative society.

According to sources, citing unavailability of moong sacks in the godown, the market was closed and pulses were also not accepted from the farmers since a long time.

However, noticing green grams being packed in the co-operative godown last night at around 11.30 pm, locals immediately informed the police.

“The co-operative society was not receiving any kind of pulses from the farmers stating shortage of sacks, now from where did the green grams surfaced and that too in such huge quantity,” alleged a local.

Meanwhile, further investigation is on to ascertain where the moong sacks were being transported.
