Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik today dedicated 80 pucca houses to the slum dwellers of Mahisakhala in BJB Nagar area of Bhubaneswar. According to sources, the 80 houses are constructed in two blocks consisting of 40 houses each.

According to sources, these pucca houses are being given as a part of the rehabilitation program for slum dwellers. The dwellers who were evicted from the Mahisakhala area will be rehabilitated here.

The 80 pucca houses have been constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crore under the Rajiv Awas Yojana.

Going forward, the state government is planning to provide houses to 748 beneficiaries across 17 blocks. The State government has allocated Rs 50 crore for the same.

“This is the first phase in which 80 families of Mahisakhala slum will be rehabilitated. We are planning to build 760 houses,” said Housing and Urban development minister Pushpendra Singhdeo.

“As per the commitments made by the government before election we are fulfilling our promise of providing housing to the poor people. As a part of this we have inaugurated 80 houses for the slum dwellers of Mahisakhala,” said Bhubaneswar Mayor Anant Narayan Jena.
