Bhubaneswar records highest temperature in the State on Sunday

Bhubaneswar: People across Odisha are reeling under intense heat wave conditions despite the early arrival of Monsoon on May 8.

While temperature in Bhubaneswar was the highest at 42.3 degrees, 6 other places--Angul, Bolangir, Baripada, Cuttack , Bhawanipatna and Chandbali reported more than 40 degrees.

The rising mercury has almost made it impossible for people to go out without properly covering their body.

"The temperature has only increased in last few days. Without a gamucha and cap it has been difficult to step out of home," said a Bolangir resident.

On the other hand farmers are frustrated over the sudden change in the climate especially after the Agriculture Department advised them to refrain from sowing seeds in certain types of land till the rains begin.

Maheswar Pandit, a farmer from Nilgiri, said,"There are no rains as of now and hence it is not the right time to sow seeds. I am not able to figure out what should be done."

The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Department has also said that the heat wave will continue for next few days. Until and unless a low pressure is created in Bay of Bengal, Monsoon rains can't be expected.

"Heat wave will continue till Monsoon air is not active. Except for southern parts of Odisha, heat wave is likely to continue for the next few days," Ramesh Charan Naik, a Regional Meteorological Department official said.
