Bhubaneswar: From rank 94 in 2017, Smart City Bhubaneswar slipped to 245th position in the Swachh Survekshan 2018 cleanliness survey in which 4,040 other cities had participated.

The survey was conducted by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under the aegis of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).

While Indore was declared the cleanest city in the country, Bhopal and Chandigarh emerged as the second and third cleanest cities of the country.

During an event on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed the Swachh Survekshan Awards in Indore.

While addressing the crowd, PM Modi said Swachh Bharat was Mahatma Gandhi’s dream which has now become the resolve of 125 crore Indians.

"The entire country can take inspiration from Indore, which has been awarded for being the cleanest city in India. He also appreciated the three best performing States in cleanliness – Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh," said Modi.
