Bhubaneswar: Adding another feather to its cap, the Biju Patnaik International Airport here will begin its flight base operations from October 1. With the launch of this facility, scheduled flights can make a night halt at the airport. The facility is expected to benefit the flyers by making flight services operational till late night and early morning.

According to sources, following the launch of the facility, two Indigo flights from Kolkata and New Delhi will make a night halt in Bhubaneswar. While the flight from Kolkata will arrive at 10:05 PM, the flight from New Delhi will arrive at Bhubaneswar airport at 12:30 AM. Both the flights will make a night halt and will depart to Kolkata and New Delhi the next morning at 5:55 AM and 6:05 AM, respectively.

“Two flights of Indigo will make base here in Bhubaneswar from October 1. The benefit will be that the engineering operations will be based out of her generating employment opportunities. It will also enhance, early morning and late night connectivity,” said Bhubaneswar Airport director Ramaswamy Mahalingam.

“For businessmen, the launch of these services is very helpful as late night connectivity will help one to return easily without having to stay,” said a businessman.

Currently, there are more than 30 flights of Air India, Indigo, GoAir and Vistara airlines operating from Bhubaneswar connecting nine cities of India. Sources informed that Indigo is expected to launch 4 new flights from October and November connecting Bengaluru, Hyderabad and New Delhi.
