Bhubaneswar: Achieving yet another milestone in its journey towards becoming a Smart City, Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar has bagged a prestigious 2nd runners-up position at the Barcelona Smart City Expo World Congress organized in Spain.
The ranking was based on the proposals submitted on various developmental projects in cities. Bhubaneswar was competing in the innovative global south category.
While Kenya’s Nairobi emerged as champion, Chennai followed Bhubaneswar in 4th position.

“All credit goes to the Bhubaneswar citizens and our chief minister Naveen Patnaik on whose guidance and efforts we have achieved such a feat. Among 250 projects featuring from 45 countries, 6 countries went to the final round. While Nairobi of Kenya was the champion, Bhubaneswar emerged as the second runners-up. Bhubaneswar has become a world class city and it is likely to receive adequate investments and tourist attention,” said Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation Mayor, Anant Narayan Jena.
