Bhubaneswar: Another land grab case has been filed against Tarini Builders MD Niranjan Rana, who is currently lodged in Jail in connection with a real estate fraud to the tune of Rs 9 crore.
According to sources, Niranjan has allgedly grabbed 1 acre 28 decimals of Bhoodan land in Uttampur in Cuttack sadar. His company is said to have grabbed this parcel of land which was given to landless people.
With help of some local youths, Rana took control ot the land and demolished some houses on that land.
Sources alleged that a case was filed earlier with the Cuttack Sadar police but no action was taken and hence another case was lodged with Sahid Nagar Police in Bhubaneswar.
“While we were not present, Tarini Builders forcibly grabbed the Bhoodan land, which was granted to us. They have also plotted the land and are trying to sell it to others,” said complainant Arjun Samal.
“When we came to know that Niranjan Rana is building a boundary on the land and is illegally taking possession of it, we protested. But his goons attacked us. I was injured in the attack by his henchmen. We had filed a case earlier, but no steps were taken,” said another complainant Chaitanya Samal.
“As per the rules, the land which has been indentified and granted as ‘Bhoodan’ cannot be bought or sold. Despite such strict regulations, Tarini Builders, Niranjan Rana and some brokers have illegally looted the land,” said social activist Sukant Sethi.
