Bhawanipatna MLA's son gets 6-month jail term for cheque bounce

Kalahandi: The Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced Hemsagar, son of BJD MLA from Bhawanipatna, Anam Naik, in a cheque bounce case to six months of simple imprisonment.

The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 2 lakh on Hemsagar while observing that cheque bounce cases need to be tackled with a heavy hand.

As per reports, Hemsagar had issued a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to one Deepak Kumar which later bounced. Deepak then sent a notice to the accused seeking payment of the amount due but Hemsagar failed to do so.

The complainant then filed a complaint seeking prosecution of the accused. However, the accused had pleaded not guilty to the charges and claimed trial.
