Bhubaneswar: Hundred of school teachers under the aegis of United B.Ed Teachers Federation staged demonstration at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar today with various demands including subject-wise teacher appointment and equal status to Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) of primary schools at par with the TGTs working in secondary schools.

The Federation has alleged, even after the instruction of the Orissa High Court and presence of a provision in the Right To Education (RTE) Act, the State government has not announced the standard Staff Pattern for Upper Primary Schools, as a result of which B.Ed teachers and teachers employed as TGTs are imparting education at primary schools. They are also getting salary in the scale of Matric CT teachers.

Earlier on February 25, the Federation in a press meet had alleged that while the TGTs appointed in all Model Schools and High Schools are getting salary as per the usual pay scale, the TGTs appointed at upper primary schools are not provided salary in the same scale. Therefore, the teachers have been demanding equal pay for equal work.

The Federation had also threatened to launch a mass protest during the ongoing Budget Session of the Odisha Assembly if their demands were not met.
