Bargarh: In yet another case of farmer suicide, a young peasant being frustrated over massive crop loss caused by hailstorm committed suicide by consuming poison at Kubedega village under Bheden block in the district today.

23-year old Kiran Pradhan had grown paddy in eight acres of lands for which he had borrowed around Rs 2 lakh from private money lenders and banks. He lost mental balance after his standing crops were damaged in the recent hails storms, family members said.

"He has been under severe mental stress after the crops were ruined by untimely rains. We found him lying at his land yesterday and rushed him to Bheden health centre in a critical condition", Babul Pradhan, brother of the deceased, said.

Later, he was shifted to district headquarters hospital where he died during treatment.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at Bheden police station after inquest of the body.

"We are investigating the case based on the allegation of family members that Kiran had consumed pesticide kept for application in land after his crops were damaged", Motilal Bag, ASI of Bheden police station, said.
