Distressed farmer kills self over crop loss

Bargarh: A farmer of Bargarh district died while undergoing treatment at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Khainu Bagarti of Kenpalli village in the district.

Sources said the farmer committed suicide by consuming poison on Sunday due to severe crop loss and debt burden. Later, his family members had admitted him at the VIMSAR.

Meanwhile, angry over the incident, fellow villagers blocked the Bargarh-Sohela road keeping Khainu’s body on the road. They demanded adequate compensation for the bereaved family, reports added.
