Banapur rape victim's suicide: Main accused held

Khurda: The  main accused in connection with the rape and suicide of a minor girl at Suanpadia in Banapur of Khurda district was arrested along with his brother today.

The duo has been identified as Nimai Palei and Kedar Palei. The move comes after some locals blocked the Banapur main road yesterday alleging police inaction in the 16-year-old girl's death case.

The girl had committed suicide after allegedly being raped by Nimai three weeks back.

Later father of the girl had lodged a police complaint on January 2 against Nimai alleging that the youth had raped his daughter on December 31 night.

To end her ordeal the girl had consumed poison and ended her life on January 24.

The incident comes closely on the heels of the suicide incident of Kunduli gang rape survivor that sparked state-wide outrage.
