Balasore minor girl rape & murder: POCSO court awards life term to accused

Balsore: The POCSO court in Balasore on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping and murdering a minor girl near Nemba Nai under Sadar police limits in the district in 2014.

Sources said the minor girl, a resident of Lathikata of Sundergarh district was abducted by the accused Pradeep Acharya of Chaulachhada area in Balasore on pretext of marriage.

However, the girl was found hanging from a tree later and based on investigation, autopsy and DNA reports of the deceased, police had found that the she was raped and murdered by Acharya.

Meanwhile, amid public outcry over rising cases of minor girl rape, the court’s judgement has been welcomed by many.
