Baby swapping allegations resurface at SCB medical college

Cuttack: Baby swapping slur returned to haunt authorities of the SCB Medical College and Hospital here once again when a woman lodged a complaint at Mangalabag police station today alleging her baby has been swapped with another one.

The woman alleged her baby has been taken away and another baby, which she says is not her’s, been handed over to her.

The woman gave birth to a baby at Gynaecology and Obstetrics department on January 27 through Caesarean section. But neither the sex of the baby was disclosed to her nor was she allowed to see the baby.

Today the hospital authorities handed over a baby to her which she claims is not her baby.

Though the hospital has introduced a tagging system and keeping footprints of the newborns, the allegations of baby swapping has come as a shock. The entry tickets and other documents of a pregnant woman from admission to discharge is also being maintained.

In 2013, a couple from Jajpur district had alleged that their baby boy was swapped with a girl child at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
