Bargarh: A woman delivered on the veranda of the Bargarh district headquarters hospital today due to alleged medical negligence towards her.

With the help of ASHA worker Anjali Meher, family members had brought Jayanti Suna, wife of Rupadhara Suna of Talapali village, to the district hospital after she complained of labour pain. However, the doctor at the hospital referred Jayanti to the Burla hospital citing her critical condition.

While waiting for a vehicle at the hospital veranda, Jayanti’s labour pain increased and she delivered right there.

Alleging negligence on the doctor’s part, the ASHA worker said, “The doctor referred Jayanti to Burla while saying that her condition was critical. When I went to fetch a vehicle, her relative called up and said Jayanti has delivered a baby on the veranda. This happened because of the doctor’s negligence and he could have waited for some time to see Jayanti’s condition.”

Refuting the charges Dr Narayan Mishra, Gynaecologist, the Bargarh hospital said, “The pregnant woman had 50 percent chances of normal delivery and all the beds of the ward were occupied by patients, therefore we referred her to the Burla hospital.”
