Cuttack: The post mortem of the body of home guard Kirtiranjan Masant, which was found on the banks of Satabdi river at Paschimakachha village last month, has confirmed that he had committed suicide, police said today.

Masant had shot himself with his own pistol, police sources said attributing his suicide to a family dispute. He had left Odisha and spent some days outside the state before his death due to the family disturbance, they added.

Notably, the police had ruled out the suicide angle initially.

Masant's bullet-ridden body was found on the river bank near his village on June 13. Though a country-made gun was found near the body, senior police officers had said a murder case had been registered based on the complaint filed by his family members.

Masant had been posted at Jagatpur police station for the past five years. His family has ruled out any personal enmity leading to the killing.
