The party has also decided to stage s demonstration near Raj Bhawan here while a party delegation would take up the matter with the President of India very soon.

A decision to this effect was taken at an emergency meeting of the BJP core team in the presence of Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and state party leaders Bijoy Mahapatra, KV Singhdeo and Dilip Ray. The decision was endorsed at the party state executive meeting that followed at the party’s headquarters here this afternoon.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Pradhan said it was beyond imagination that the chief minister had planned to kill opposition political leaders.

“There is no constitutionally sanctioned government in Odisha. On this issue, the BJP will launch a statewide protest. The party will stage demonstration in front of Raj Bhawan while a delegation of the party will take up the issue with the President of India very soon,” senior BJP leader Bijoy Mohapatra told media persons here.

BJP MLA Pradip Purohit said nowhere in India had ruling party supporters in a state launched such murderous attack on a Central minister during his visit to the state.

“I was with the Union minister Santosh Gangwar in the vehicle when the incident took place. To my utter surprise, the police, instead of taking action against the attackers, politely requested them not to do what they were doing,” he said.

In his reaction, senior BJD leader and Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya said the BJP. Had no issues and is desperately trying to take political mileage the way a drowning man clutches at a straw.

“There was no attack on the Union minister. Whatever incident had taken place, the police is investigating into it,” he said.
