Cuttack: Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bipin Bihari Nayak of Police Headquarters here has been handed over the responsibility to probe into the attack on Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, Cuttack (Rural) SP Madhab Chandra Sahoo informed today.

The development came after Subhendra Nayak, a social activist from Jayarampur in Nischintakoili block lodged a complaint in this regard. In the FIR, Nayak has demanded thorough inquiry and strict action against all accused.

“Based on the information given by the complainant we have registered a case and have handed over the probe to a Headquarter DSP,” Cuttack Rural SP Madhab Chandra Sahoo told mediapersons.

A case has been registered under sections of 147(rioting), 148(possessing deadly weapons), 294(obscene act), 323(causing hurt), 337,355(assaulting), 506(criminal intimidation), 149(unlawful assembly) of IPC following the attack incident.

It is pertinent to note, an angry mob hurled stones and eggs at Panda and his supporters during the former’s visit to inaugurate an overhead water tank project at Jatiparilo village in Mahanga.
