Bhubaneswar: ATM hacker Syed Qureshi, who is involved in various ATM thefts across Odisha and Madhya Pradesh, will be brought on transit remand by Commissionerate Police.

Qureshi is a resident of Mumbai and from there he carried out the ATM thefts. The cyber cell of Madhya Pradesh police had nabbed him recently.

Gangs involved in rigging ATM machines in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Puri and other areas of the State had brought the hacking software of ATM kiosks from Qureshi. He was able to transfer more than Rs 100 crore to his account by hacking the kiosks.

Meanwhile, Commissionerate Police is planning to bring him on transit remand from Madhya Pradesh for further interrogation.

"The main accused in this case, Qureshi used to download and send the malware to his associates stationed at the ATMs. His associates then share the screenshot following which Qureshi used to send them the password to hack the ATMs," Police Commissioner YB Khurania said while explaining the modus operandi of the racket.

The Madhya Pradesh police caught Qureshi and he is presently under judicial custody, said Khurania adding, "We will appeal before the court for his custody as he is also wanted in a few cases registered with us. A team from here will be sent to MP once we get the court orders."
