Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police today arrested an ATM looter, who invested the looted money in buses and cars, and seized two buses, a car and Rs 60,000 cash from his possession.

The accused, identified as Madhab Acharya, a resident of Kendrapara, had invested the illegal money in bus business. “He bought two buses and a car with the looted money. These vehicles have been seized along with Rs 60,000 cash. Investigation is in progress and we may come across more funds and assets that he has created out of this,” police commissioner YB Khurania said.

A class X drop out, Madhab had started his criminal career in train theft. He used to loot the passengers on moving trains after drugging them on the sly. Later, he switched over to ATM loot.

Police said he learned the loot idea from YouTube after watching several videos regarding the modus operandi of ATM loot. He usually targetted women, elderly persons and uneducated people. On the pretext of the assisting unknown persons, he used to cleverly acquire the password which helped him in doing the unlawful activities.

The commissionerate police has acquired CCTV footage showing Madhab at his tricks in at least 25 ATM centres.
