Berhampur: The Police on Tuesday nabbed an ATM card thief and seized Rs 2 lakh cash, 13 ATM cards and a motorcycle from his possession. The accused identified as Pravakar Pradhan was caught from Prem Nagar area in Berhampur.

His modus operandi was to extend help to people who were ignorant about handling ATM cards. Pravakar would obtain the card and password from them and deceitfully steal their money. Illiterates and elderly people were his usual targets, informed Police.

The incident came to light on April 25 after a woman lodged a complaint at Golanthara Police Station in the district.

On the same night, Pravakar was nabbed from his rented accommodation at Prem Nagar while his aide Sankarshana Sahu gave police a slip. Soon after,  Pravakar complained of severe body pain and was admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital.

On April 28, the miscreant managed to escape from the hospital after which the Police launched a man hunt.

Pravakar was nabbed while visiting his house at Prem Nagar for Sabitri Amabasya on Tuesday, informed Police. However, his aide Sankarshana is on the run.
