Bhubaneswar: Titlagarh was the hottest place in the state today with 45 degree Celsius, while the mercury went up to 40 degrees and above in 17 other places of the state of which 10 recorded above 42 degrees, a Met department release issued here this evening said.
Temperature in 17 places are Chandbali (40.4), Cuttack (40.6), Bhubaneswar (42.2), Angul (42.7), Baripada (40.5), Jharsuguda (42), Keonjhar (40), Sambalpur (42), Sundergarh (42.5), Hirakud (42.1), Talcher (43.6), Bhawanipatna (43.5), Balangir (43), Phulbani (40), Malkangiri (43.4), Sonepur (44.8) and Dhenkanal (42.5).
While an intense heat wave continues in most parts of Odisha, the Met department has said the condition will prevail till April 19.
Talking to OTV on Wednesday, Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, Director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, said though the wind speed from the south and south-east direction was slow in the morning, it became comparatively faster at 15 kmph later in the day. As a result, the temperature could not rise further.
He also said temperature in most parts of western, central and coastal Odisha would remain at 40 degree and above till next week up to April 19 with minor variations depending on the wind speed and its direction. There is possibility of light rainfall in some parts of south Odisha after April 19, he added.
