Bhubaneswar: Mounting attack on the ruling party over farmer deaths in Odisha, the BJP legislators today created ruckus demanding a debate on the matter while asking for suspension of the Question Hour, following which the Speaker adjourned the proceedings for one hour.

While the State’s Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy was presenting a reply on the Potato Mission in the Assembly, the BJP members including Rabi Nayak marched to the well of the House and demanded for the Question Hour suspension and a debate on farmer deaths.

Nayak tried to break the Speaker’s mike after standing on a chair near the reporters’ table prompting Speaker Niranjan Pujari to adjourn the proceedings for one hour as the House could not be run due to the noisy scene.

During the zero hour, Opposition leader Narasingha Mishra demanded for an independent probe into the Bargarh farmer death case.

In his reply, Speaker Niranjan Pujari stated examination regarding the possibility for a probe into the farmer death case is on.

Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati also showed his concern over the Bargarh farmer death and created a ruckus demanding action against the district collector.

Unable to carry out the proceedings, Speaker adjourned the House till 12.55 pm for second time and 3 pm later.
