Assault charge on Begunia MLA again

Khordha: Less than a month after he was charged with leading an assault on BJP workers showing black flags to a BJD team at Manamunda in Boudh district, BJD MLA from Begunia Prashant Jagdev has been accused of assaulting a party co-worker.

Sheikh Nijamuddin Khan of Taratua near Khordha has filed a complaint at the Town police station alleging that the MLA attacked him during a Mahanadi Banchao Mahasangram Andolan at Saradhapur Chhak.

As per the complaint, the MLA came in a procession to join the movement and later assaulted him. Angry over the incident, some locals staged a road blockade at the Saradhapur Chhak by burning tyres and demanded the arrest of the BJD MLA.

Jagdev, however, has refuted the allegation. He said while he was coming in a procession, Nijamuddin came in an inebriated condition and abused him by intercepting his vehicle. When the MLA opposed him, Nijamuddin manhandled many party workers present there.

The MLA said his driver had lodged a complaint at the Town police station in this regard.

“We have a received a complaint of assault against MLA Jagdev from Nijamuddin. Necessary action will be taken once we complete the investigation,” said Khordha Town police station IIC Ranjit Kumar Sahu.
