Bhubaneswar: Protesting wrong recruitment policy of the state government, aspiring teachers on Monday demanded 'state-wide' posting of new candidates on the basis of marks instead of district wise preference.
Hundreds of Sikshya Sahayak aspirants staged protest in front of the office of Odisha Primary Education Programme Authority (OPEPA) and sought its immediate action into faulty policy for recruitment to 14,087 Sikshya Sahayak Vacancies.
While the state government had issued a notification in which it had mentioned that selection shall be made only on the basis of percentage of marks, the recruitment shows that instead of marks the posting has been done on the basis of districts, alleged an aspiring teacher.
"This would not have happened if the government had followed state-wide recruitment. The state government is boasting value based education but is it fair that a student who has scored 168 marks is posted instead of a student who has scored 240,” said another aspirant.
“How is it possible that a student with low marks gets the job while a high scoring candidate is left out. If the government does not listen to our demands then we will move the Orissa High Court to put a stay order on the recruitment,” she added.
This apart the aspirants also demanded transparency in the recruitment and have asked the OPEPA to make the merit list of the examination public.
On the other hand, the authorities said the recruitment has been done as per the government norms and the merit list will be re-published.
“We have asked the districts to carry out the correction of some mistakes in the results within three days. Only one merit list has been published which is also the draft,” said OPEPA director Bhupinder S Punia.
“I cannot say anything on it in the middle of the recruitment since it is a policy decision and dependent on the government,” he added.
The OPEPA had released detailed notification for recruitment of 14,087 Sikshya Sahayak teacher vacancies in December last year.
