Bhubaneswar: Tension erupted at the Kalinga Stadium here today when some sports aficionados created commotion over non-availability of tickets at the stadium counter for the 22nd Asian Athletics Championship.

Though sports lovers waited for long hours to get a ticket for the inaugural ceremony, the ‘tickets sold out’ board was displayed at the counter within few minutes after 12.30 pm when the counter was opened.

Heated arguments also ensued between sports enthusiasts waiting for a ticket and cops present there adding fuel to the tense situation.

Sanjibani Patnaik, a female sports lover from Bhubaneswar, said, “No one can believe tickets were sold out within just two days. When locals are unable to get a ticket, imagine what could have been the suffering of people coming from outer states!”

Expressing similar views, another sports lover Banambara Das, said, “Black marketers must be involved in the whole affair. A similar case happened during the recent Hockey India League (HIL) as well.”

Tickets for the sports meet at the stadium counter were fixed at Rs 50 each.

Around 1,000 athletes and officials from 45 countries are participating in the July 6-9 sports meet at the stadium.
