Bhubaneswar: All hopes are pinned on five Odia athletes on the third day of the Asian Athletics Championship at the Kalinga Stadium here today with focus on Jauna Murmu. She will run for gold in the finals today after she entered the finals in 400 metres hurdles with an impressive performance on Friday.

Apart from Murmu, Poornima Hembram will also be seen in action as she finished second in Heptathlon hurdles event early in the morning. Besides, sprinter Amiya Mallick, who was disqualified in the 100mt men’s event on Friday, will compete in 200 mt race today. Ace women sprinters Dutee Chand and Shrabani Nanda will take part in 4x400m relay.

Earlier, Dutee had clinched bronze in 100 mt sprint event yesterday. The Indian athletes have put up a superb show at the championship by winning 15 medals (6 Gold, 3 Silver, 6 Bronze) so far.

Peoples Republic of China is on the second spot with 10 medals.
