Bhubaneswar: The Asian Athletics Championships frenzy has just started to take the twin city residents in its grip with the 22nd international meet scheduled to kick off on July 2 at the Kalinga Stadium. The ground is almost ready with final preparations continuing for the international meet.

The eight-lane track at the Kalinga Stadium, the venue to the international meet, has been successfully re-laid. As many as 40 new rooms, with advanced equipment, have been built in the Stadium to accommodate the athletes and sports officials.

Arrangements have been made for dope test,medical test, podium of medal winners, media gallery and a video analysis room has been set. While renovation of the stands is going on in full swing, beautification work is set to get completed in a few days, said a Stadium official.

Installation and renovation of floodlight towers has also been completed.

Banners and hoardings have been put up across the city welcoming all to the event. Besides, the State government is taking the event as an opportunity to boost the State’s tourism sector.

More than 700 athletes from 45 countries will be in the Capital city to participate in 42 events during the Asian Athletics Championships. Rs 43 crore has been reportedly spent for construction and renovation work of the Stadium.
