Bhubaneswar: Putting an end to all speculations, Pakistan team on Monday reached Odisha to participate in the 22nd Asian Athletics Championship to be held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from July 5.

President of the Pakistan Athletics Federation, Akram Sahi expressed happiness after reaching the Biju Patnaik International Airport here and lauded the efforts of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).

"We highly appreciate efforts of the Indian Athletics Federation because of which we are here. We have such good relationship with the AFI that we could finally make it to the championships," said Sahi.

The Pakistan team comprises six athletes. Earlier, there were doubts over the participation of Pakistan in the games due to visa issues.

Meanwhile, the teams of Malaysia and Iraq also reached the Capital city late last night.

So far, athletes of 17 countries have reached Bhubaneswar to participate in the athletics meet.

The Asian Athletics meet will be organised from July 5 to 9. More than 700 athletes from around 45 countries will participate in 42 events, 21 for men and 21 for women.
