Puri: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), overseeing repair works at Puri Jagannath Temple filed an affidavit in the Orissa High Court today providing details of the current status of the ongoing repair works near Jaya-Vijaya Dwar, Beharana Dwar and Garuda Sthambha.

In the affidavit, the ASI has said that the works near Jaya-Vijaya Dwar will take around 180 days while works on Beharana Dwar is scheduled to be completed within the next four months.

Similarly, the time limit for renovation of cracks on Garuda Sthambha has been set at 1 month.

The ASI has requested the temple administration to provide space for taking up the work immediately.

Meanwhile, the High Court has asked the temple administration to submit an affidavit in reply to the time limit to be allowed to ASI for completion of the aforesaid works.

The court has scheduled the next hearing on November 22. Moreover, the court has asked the ASI to submit the status report on renovation works of more than 80 small temples and architectures inside the temple 'Bedha' or premises.

The move comes after the apex court taking cognizance of a report by NK Mohanty, a retired civil engineer and a lawyer who has been appointed amicus curiae in the case, had highlighted that the corridor adjoining Jaya-Vijaya Dwar of the temple was in distressed condition while cracks had developed in the Garuda Stambha.

Recently the ASI Director (Conservation) visited the site and suggested several guidelines for reference during the renovation works.
