Bhubaneswar: As a mark of celebration of India’s 71st Independence Day and an initiative to connect with youths and public at large, Indian Army band displayed a one-hour mesmerising performance at Indira Gandhi Park here in the city on Sunday.

The audience at the park were filled with patriotism listening to the tunes played by the Army Band and adding to the performance, few tunes of evergreen Bollywood songs were also played by the Band.

The splendid symphony was delivered by a troupe of 14 men, comprising of a band master, eight pipers and five drummers, of Gopalpur Army Defence Regiment.

The one-hour long performance received a great response from the audience receiving applause and praises for the Military Band.

The concert was an awareness drive to connect to the youths of Odisha and make them aware about contributions of the Army to the Nation. Army officers gave tips to the youngsters among audience on how to pursue a career by joining Indian Army.

“There is stall for girls too where information and process of joining Army is being displayed. It is a good opportunity for girls to know how to join Army and serve the nation,” said Sangita Behera an audience.

Due to low numbers of Odia youths in Army, the event was organised to inspire them for joining Army and pursue a career in it.

“We want to create an awareness program here in Odisha to encourage youths to join Army because as per our feedback there is less awareness among youths here. By organising such events we want to inspire youths to join Army,” said Colonel Bijay Pattnaik, Bhubaneswar Military Station.
