Bhubaneswar: The residents of Mangala slum under ward no-14 of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) are now having a tough time after getting swarmed by bugs.

From verandah to walls, one can find armies of insects crawling everywhere. The situation is such that people are trying all sorts of options from pouring kerosene to setting fire to keep the insects at bay.

However, such attempts have proved futile as the bugs from nearby bamboo plantations continuously intrude the human settlement forcing the residents to keep their doors and windows shut even in such hot conditions.

"We are fed up with the bugs and they keep entering our homes. The children are most affected and vulnerable as the insects might harm them," said Anapurna Behera, a local resident.

Behera further stated that they have to keep all the food items properly covered as the insects could contaminate the food items.

The local residents allege that despite several complaints, the officials of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and Forest Department have not taken any measures to address the problem.

"It is due to flowering season of bamboo that bugs have infested the area. We hope that the situation will normalise soon," said Chandaka DFO, Kedar Swain.
