Berhampur:  They guard and whistle to put a check on open defecation in their village every day. Contributing to the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ in an innovative manner, a group of women have adopted such a novel way to create awareness on use of toilets at Ranajhali under Purusottampur in Ganjam.

The ‘Whistle Gang’ conducts patrol on a 3 km stretch on a road that connects the scared Tara Tarini shrine. Holding placards, the women activists prevent people to defecate in the open.

The only objective of the women activists is to keep the environment clean by creating awareness and promoting use of toilets in the village.

The women activists have also planned to extend the whistling campaign against open defecation to 22 other blocks of the distinct in coming days, said Sarpanch, Ramesh Chandra Behera.
