Bhubaneswar: In a day light heist, five armed miscreants allegedly looted over Rs 13 lakh and 1 kg gold ornaments from Bapuji Nagar branch of UCO bank here on Wednesday. Police and scientific team have reached the spot and started investigation.

Police said a special team has been formed to nab the looters.

According to Police Commissioner YB Khurania, the incident took place between 9:30 and 10:30 am when few customers were inside the branch.

“From preliminary investigation we came to know that posing customers, five miscreants had entered the bank. They terrorised the customers and bank staff with revolver. After taking all under their control, they managed to get the money from the locker. They have also taken around one kg of mortgaged gold which was inside the locker,” Khurania said.

“A special team has been formed to nab the looters and we will soon catch them,” he added.

Investigation also suggests that the bank has neither any security arrangement nor alarm system. It is learnt that the miscreants have fled with the hard disk of the CCTV camera in a bid to destroy evidence.

According to Manager of the bank, the looters were talking in Odia and Hindi.

“Everything happened within no time. Before we could alert the police, they fled in a car,” he said.

The scientific team has seized a live cartridge from the spot.
