AQIS operative Rehman back to Tihar jail; next deposition Jun 12

Salipur: Suspected Al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) operative Abdul Rehman returned to the Tihar jail in Delhi after he was produced amid tight security in the Salipur Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court today.

The judge holding the JMFC court charge in absence of the actual JMFC, who was on leave, directed the Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch to produce Rehman again on June 12.

Earlier in the day, Rehman was brought to the Salipur court from Tihar jail by a joint team of Delhi and Odisha police.

Rehman’s counsel Arunodaya Mohanty told newsmen, “As the JMFC is not present, the judge holding the charge sent Rehman on another 14-day remand.”

Mohanty further informed the STF will submit the case papers in the court later in the day.

Rehman was arrested by a joint team of the Delhi Police special cell and the Commissionerate Police from Paschimkachcha village in Cuttack district following a raid on December 15, 2015 on charges of running a madrasa illegally and involvement in recruiting members for AQIS.

The Salipur JMFC had directed the STF to produce Rehman on May 29 during his deposition in the court on May 15 this year.
