New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court today granted bail to self-styled godman Sarathi alias Santosh Roul in a medical girl student molestation case.

Informing newsmen on the SC order, Sarathi’s lawyer Sushant Kanungo said, "In the medico girl student case, the apex court granted the bail unconditionally to Sarathi while saying the State has violated the fundamental rights of him without proper investigation or prima facie evidence. Though the Odisha government had requested the Supreme Court for seizure of Sarathi's passport citing on-going probe in other cases, the apex court ruled out the argument."

Kanungo further stated, "There will be no issues for early release of Sarathi from the jail and petitions will be moved in the Orissa High Court soon regarding two other pending cases."

Earlier, in October last year, the Orissa High Court had rejected the bail plea of Sarathi, who has been lodged in the Choudwar Circle jail since August 8, 2015, in the molestation case of the medical student.
