Sambalpur: Six persons, including the main accused Sanjay Ghosh, have been awarded life imprisonment for the murder of super-class contractor Anup Babu in Sambalpur in 2010.
The court acquitted two persons due to lack of evidence against them.
The verdict was pronounced by the Sambalpur first class additional district sessions judge Ambuj Mohan Das.
Anup Babu was murdered on October 7, 2010.His body was found behind Jyoti Bhavan in Sambalpur’s Sakhipara.
“Six persons have been imprisoned for life with a fine of Rs 50, 000 while two persons have been acquitted due to lack of evidence. The main accused Sanjay Ghosh moved the Supreme Court for a bail. However, the apex court denied him bail and ordered the court to complete the trial in 6 months. However, due to many reasons, the trial got delayed by 3-4 months. There were certain lacunae in the investigation process. The concerned authorities did not collect the records of calls made to the deceased while the visitor record in which the name of the four accused was found was not verified by handwriting experts. Such omissions undermined the case and the prosecution had to face difficulties,” said Anup’s legal counsel AP Purohit.
“I am very happy with the verdict and I would like to thank Sanjeev Satpathy, Asit Panigrahi, Vinod Sahoo, Prakash Sahoo, advocate Gourav Mohan Das, Suresh Pujari, and judge Ambuj Mohan Das,” said Anup’s sister.
