Bhubaneswar: With security forces eliminating as many as seven Maoists in the past 48 hours in different parts of the State, Odisha DGP RP Sharma today said that anti-Naxal ops will be intensified further.

In a bid to keep the momentum going, similar operations to flush out rebels will be intensified across Odisha, Sharma said.

"We have now decided to focus more on intelligence based anti-Maoist operations in coordination with several sister agencies and security personnel of other States including Bihar, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand," said Sharma.

Sharma further stated that special operations would be launched in several Maoist infested areas while focus will be on elimination of extremists in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada, Rayagada and Kalahandi districts.

Sharing more details on the recent operations in Kandhamal and Bolangir districts, Sharma revealed that seven ultras including two top Maoist cadres carrying cash rewards have been killed in exchange of fire.

Both the operations were meticulously planned as no casualties were reported from security forces side.

"We have recovered several arms including AK 47, Insas, SLR and ammunition in combing operations which are still underway in both districts,'" Sharma added.
